I started at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners answering the phones in 1990. After a few months of accidentally disconnecting clients, I was promoted to the creative department where I came to understand that writers had the cushiest jobs in advertising. After a few years of writing trayliners and retail print ads; I was made a full-time writer, and realized it was harder than it looked.
In my 7 years as a writer at Goodby, I produced work for clients including Hewlett Packard, The California Milk Processors Board, Sutter Home Winery, eBay, and Norwegian Cruise Lines. I worked long hours, won awards, ate extravagant meals paid for by production companies and went on glamorous shoots to exotic locations.
Then I had a kid.
For the past five years I have freelanced for a broad range of clients such as Netflix, SBC, eBay, Electronic Arts, Condé Nast, and Hewlett Packard. And although the freelance lifestyle is less glamorous, I do know all the words to the theme song from Dora the Explorer.
